Renissa Norman, PhDPostdoctoral Therapist
Renissa was born and raised in Leavenworth, Kansas. She spent time in Alabama for her undergraduate studies, earning her BS in psychology from Oakwood University. Renissa later moved to Oklahoma where she earned both her Masters in Educational psychology and her PhD in Counseling Psychology from Oklahoma State University. She made her way to Texas in 2021 to complete her APA-accredited internship in health service psychology at UT Austin's Counseling and Mental Health Center. Renissa has proudly called Texas home since then.
Renissa values creating a safe, welcoming and warm space for individuals to share all aspects of their lived experiences and their identities. She is interested in understanding how a client's lived experience impacts how they perceive themselves, others and the world around them. In session, Renissa integrates Emotion-Focused therapy, culturally-affirming approaches and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help clients increase self-awareness and achieve personal growth. She also incorporates self-compassion into her work. Renissa believes that her integrative approach allows clients to feel empowered and live from a more accepting, authentic center. She is particularly passionate about working with adults who are navigating life transitions, individuals seeking to build confidence or address other self-esteem or identity concerns and those seeking to heal from trauma. Other areas of interest for Renissa include religion and spirituality, multicultural concerns and grief and loss. Many of Renissa's patients are also grappling with depression and anxiety.
In her free time, Renissa enjoys spending time with family, interior design and listening to musical theatre (Hamilton the Musical is a favorite!). Her quote to live by is Our feelings are our most genuine paths to knowledge. Supervised by Jennifer Bradford, PhD.
