Living with chronic illness

Dayna Yvonne Jondal, MATherapist

Many people who seek therapy are thoughtful, capable, and accustomed to pushing through challenges. From the outside, they may appear successful or self-aware while internally feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, self-critical, or uncertain how to live in a way that feels authentic and sustainable. Others may be navigating burnout, chronic illness, grief, relationship difficulties, or major life transitions that have altered their sense of identity and meaning. Dayna views therapy as a space to slow down, gain insight, and develop a more compassionate relationship with oneself, one’s body, and one’s life.

Dayna's approach is relational, insight-oriented, and integrative. Drawing from psychodynamic and existential traditions, she also incorporates self-compassion, mind-body approaches, and influences from the arts and humanities. She believes the therapeutic relationship itself can be a powerful catalyst for reflection, healing, and growth.

Dayna has a special interest in women's issues, neurodivergence, perfectionism, burnout, body image concerns, disordered eating, anxiety, depression, identity development, and life transitions. She particularly enjoys working with high-achieving, creative, analytically minded individuals, including those in STEM and other demanding professions, who are seeking a more meaningful and sustainable way of living. Her dissertation research focuses on the relationship between Positive Embodiment and Burnout in clinicians.

Prior to beginning doctoral training, Dayna worked in hospitals and health and wellness settings, including the Mayo Clinic Healthy Living Program, supporting individuals in behavior change, stress management, sleep, nutrition, resilience, and whole-person wellbeing. She holds a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Philosophy, backgrounds that continue to inform her clinical perspective and appreciation for analytically-minded clients. In addition to psychotherapy training, she has experience in health coaching and yoga therapy, contributing to her holistic view of mental health.

Dayna is currently pursuing her PsyD in Clinical Psychology at The Chicago School in Dallas. Outside of work, she enjoys literature, philosophy, poetry, viola, yoga, and spending time in nature.
